Venus

This image of Venus shows us the structures of its surface, which is otherwise hidden under a thick, opaque cloud cover. These clouds consist of sulphuric acid, which would be fatal for humans and animals. From 1990 to 1994, the radar instruments of the American Magellan probe made it possible to measure and record the surface of Venus almost completely.

Like Mercury, Venus is an earth-like planet. Venus is also called the sister planet of the earth, because the earth is the next planet to Venus. It is also only a little smaller than our Earth. It consists of volcanic rock, has no moons and no magnetic field. On Venus it is very unfriendly for us. It prevails about 470 degrees Celsius. This makes Venus the hottest planet in the solar system.

Venus is the brightest celestial body after the sun and our moon. This is due to the fact that Venus is so close to the Sun on the one hand, and to the Earth on the other, and that its closed cloud cover reflects sunlight particularly well. Up to four hours before sunrise or after sunset, the planet can often be seen very well at the beginning of dawn - that is why it is also called the morning or evening star.
