Freeze-dried food is suitable for space travel because it is light and has a long shelf life. The transport weight of the rockets must be as low as possible during launch. Water is constantly recycled in space. Freeze-dried food - from which the water has been removed - is therefore well suited for space missions and still forms part of the food on board spaceships and space stations today.
