Hermann Oberth - Katechismus der Uraniden - Ventla, 1966

The Catechism of the Uranids

Hermann Oberth

Chapter 10

[...] But what concerns us here can be summarised in the following seven sentences:

1. The soul survives its current body and, to all appearances, is immortal.

2. It is basically the soul that is trained, not the body, and the training continues beyond death, so that in a later life we learn more easily what we have already mastered.

3. The development of the world strives from chaos to cosmos, from inorganic to organic, from the struggle of all against all to meaningful cooperation between all.

4. This development is guided by providence, and providence needs souls who are skilled in influencing matter and who desire a harmonious world. How we are to imagine providence, as an individual, as a working community of divine beings, or in some other way, has not been clearly stated. Perhaps this is one of those concepts that, according to Chapter 2, exceeds the comprehension of our brains.

5. Providence is not absolutely omnipotent. It can achieve any goal it wants to achieve and take any path it wants to take. BUT it CANNOT achieve every goal by every means.

6. Providence makes use of the EXERCISE OF SOULS for further development. The social instincts of creatures in general and of earthly humanity in particular must be strengthened through EXERCISE.

7. Providence intervenes in the course of our history whenever events take a turn that could alienate the Earth from its purpose as a planet of improvement and practice.
