Apollo 17 mission, moon car

The Apollo 17 mission was scientifically and technically very successful and set several records: With 3 days and 3 hours, it spent the longest time on the moon, with 34 kilometres it covered the longest distance with the moon car and with 110.4 kilograms it brought the largest amount of moon rock to earth.

The photo shows astronaut Eugene Cernan driving the lunar car over the lunar surface. However, there was also a breakdown: The rear right wheel cover partially broke off, so that moon dust flew on the drivers and they could see only very badly. The astronauts helped themselves with a repair from moon maps and adhesive tape as well as clamps, which were misused from the interior lighting of the moon ferry.

On December 14, 1972, Cernan left the lunar surface as the last man to do so, which has not been entered again by humans until today.
