Extra-vehicular activity (EVA), also known as spacewalking or "space exit", is a collective term in spaceflight for all the work a spaceman does outside of a spacecraft, especially work outside of space stations or the Apollo astronauts' exits from the lunar surface (sometimes called Lunar Extra Vehicular Activity (LEVA)). EVAs are considered dangerous because they require the spaceman to move from the (relatively) safe environment of his vehicle, protected only by a space suit, into the free vacuum of space.
