Mercury
With a diameter of just under 4880 kilometres, Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system. With an average distance from the sun of about 58 million kilometres, it is the closest to the sun and therefore also the fastest. With a maximum daytime temperature of around +430 °C and a nighttime temperature as low as -170 °C, it has the greatest surface temperature fluctuations of all the planets. Due to its size and chemical composition, it is one of the Earth-like planets. Because of its proximity to the Sun, it is difficult to observe from Earth, as it only reaches a maximum angular distance of about 28° from the Sun. With binoculars it can only be seen for a maximum of one hour either in the evening or morning sky, but with telescopes it can also be seen during the day. Details on its surface can be seen from a telescope aperture of about 20 cm. Mercury is the closest planet to Earth 46% of the time.
